Did You Know...


  1. Did you know that students must complete a Federal Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year in order to be eligible to receive financial aid?
    • The FAFSA application is available beginning JANUARY 1, 2014 for the upcoming 2014-2015 academic year. 
    • You do not have to wait until you file taxes to complete the FAFSA? You can estimate your income based off of your last 2013 wage and earnings statement. 
    • Did you know that the FAU Priority deadline to Submit Your FAFSA for the 2014-2015 academic year is March 1, 2014? Do not delay filling out the FAFSA. Use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to transfer your tax information electronically.
  2. Did you know that students with an APPROVED Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) appeal must academically progress during the semester in order to receive aid for the  upcoming semester, if eligible?  Approval IS NOT automatic.
  3. Did you know that students can review their student account on MyFAU - FAU Self Service for financial aid offer updates, documents outstanding, financial aid holds, etc?
  4. Did you know that student loan debt has surpassed credit card debt?   It is important that you create a budget each semester and borrow only what you need.
  5. Did you know that students who receive federal financial aid and officially withdraw from all classes before the 60% point of the term may be subject to repayment of financial aid received?   Click here to review this policy.
  6. Did you know that the PELL grant program has a maximum lifetime limit to receive PELL funds? A recent change in the law limits the total lifetime amount of Pell Grant funding a student may receive to the equivalent of twelve (12) full-time semesters or six (6) years (600%). This change affects all Pell Grant eligible students beginning with the 2012-13 offer year.  For additional information on how the Pell Grant received amount was calculated, please visit www.studentaid.ed.gov/pell-limit
  7. Did you know that if you drop or withdraw from a course for which a Bright Futures Scholarship was disbursed, you must repay the Bright Futures received for the course?
    • Also, the student will be ineligible to renew his/her Bright Futures offer for any subsequent academic year until repayment occur.

  9. Did you know that the Direct Parent Loan for Undergraduate Students (PLUS) and the Direct Graduate PLUS loan requires credit approval through the Department of Education ?
