Paulina DeVito of MLAB has been awarded the coveted National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship. This NSF program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students who are pursuing full-time research-based master's and doctoral degrees in STEM education. It provides three years of support over a five-year fellowship period for the graduate education of individuals who have demonstrated their potential for significant research achievements.
Paulina's focus areas include developing Large Language Model-based (LLM) approaches to analyze public discourse on social media. Her research work compares the former with conventional Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques to model people's perspectives on Generative AI (GAI) in education. She aims to build upon her earlier work analyzing Reddit post utilizing NLP to explore public sentiment around GAI in education.
Her present study expands the previous scope by including other social media platforms, where she plans to analyze content created by and for young women in STEM. She shall extract and analyze themes, sentiments, and engagement metrics from posts with numerous hashstags such as #WomenInSTEM. MLAB is confident in Paulina's capability to achieve even greater heights.
