Dr Hari Kalva gets inducted into the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame

The director of MLAB Dr Hari Kalva
has been inducted into the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame for the year 2025. It is s a state-wide initiative dedicated to honoring and celebrating Florida inventors whose achievements have significantly advanced the quality of life for all Americans. Dr Kalva is one of 10 inventors selected for the 2025 class, which spans across multiple disciplines.
Dr Kalva holds a total of 73 US patents and 70 international patents to his name. A majority of these patents form critical components to the widely accepted video compression standards AVC/H.264 and HEVC/H.265 – core technologies that enable nearly every modern streaming and broadcast platform. In addition, his 14 US patents are termed standard-essential for the next generation successor of HEVC viz; VVC/H.266.
Apart from compression, Dr Kalva co-developed the omnipresent file format MPEG-4 Part 14, colloquially known as MP4. He has been a pioneer in the utilization of Machine Learning to accelerate the time and labor-intensive task of video encoding. MLAB is ecstatic about the well-deserved induction and is proud to be under the prudent leadership of Dr Kalva.
