CEGE Welcomes New Faculty Member to FAU

The Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatics Engineering at Florida Atlantic University is delighted to welcome Dr. Yao Cheng as an Assistant Professor of Transportation Engineering. Dr. Cheng joins FAU from the University of Maryland, College Park, where he served as a Faculty Specialist and led numerous projects in collaboration with the U.S. and Maryland Departments of Transportation, as well as several city governments. His research centers on enhancing traffic safety and operations through data-driven methods, the integration of emerging technologies such as drones and AI-based video detection, and the application of machine learning to innovative traffic control strategies. In addition to his research, Dr. Cheng has earned both his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees and taught courses in transportation engineering at the University of Maryland. At FAU, he will advance research on smart mobility and transportation safety while making important contributions to the department’s teaching and service missions.
