We are delighted to announce that Celina Detwiler Gray, a dual-enrolled high school and undergraduate student at FAU is the recipient of the 2024 Microscopy Society of America (MSA) Undergraduate Research Scholarship under the supervision of Dr. Vivian Merk, who is an affiliate assistant professor of Biomedical Engineering, assistant professor of Ocean and Mechanical Engineering, and assistant professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry.
Supported by funding from the prestigious MSA award, Celina conducted research that culminated in the publication of a peer-reviewed paper in ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces, one of the leading journals in materials science and nanotechnology. Her work represents a significant milestone in undergraduate research and reflects FAU’s commitment to early academic engagement and innovation.
In recognition of the research’s scientific excellence and broad impact, Celina's study was selected for the cover of the journal, an honor reserved for work that demonstrates exceptional originality and relevance within the field.
This achievement highlights the strength of undergraduate research opportunities within FAU, as well as the supportive mentorship and resources available through College of Science and College of Engineering and Computer Science.
We congratulate Vivian and Celina on this remarkable accomplishment and look forward to their continued contributions to research and discovery as her academic career progresses.
