WLW-ECOS Internships
The WLW-ECOS Internship program provides College of Science undergraduate students with real-world experience working at approved non-profit and governmental environmental organizations. This paid internship program enables students to apply their academic knowledge in professional settings while building valuable skills and connections in the environmental field. Internships may be in-person, remote, or hybrid, and students may work successively at different organizations.
Compensation: $22 per hour (maximum $7,500 per student)
Eligibility
- Full-time degree-seeking College of Science students
- Junior or senior status
- Minimum GPA: 3.0
- Must complete either Course IDS 3941 (Science Internship Course) for credit or Course IDS 3949 (Professional Internship Course) for zero credit during first semester of internship
- Faculty letter of recommendation required (requested after application)
- Final selection by internship organization
- Non-COS students are ineligible

- Summer Dates: Application period – March 9 – 22; Starting Date: May 9
- Fall Dates: Application period – June 26 – July 10; Starting Date: August 22

2026 Summer Internship Descriptions
Before you apply, you will need to write three 500-word limit essays. You will also need to select the organizations that you wish to work with. Please use this template for both requirements:
Personal statement consisting of three essays (500-word limit each) describing:
- Your completed environmental science coursework and relevant volunteer, research, and work experience,
- The impact you would like to make in your career, and
- An obstacle and how you overcame it
Documents that are required:
- Three personal essays
- Resume with relevant experience
- FAU transcript (unofficial)
- Faculty letter of recommendation
Internship Requirements
- Submit final internship report for each organization (1,000-word limit)
- Attend an ECOS Expo
- Present internship experience at ECOS Expo OR to two COS classes (with permission of course instructor)
- Provide photographic or video content for ECOS social media
Recipients will be chosen by the Schmidt College of Science ECOS Scholarship Committee.
