MEETING THE CIVIC LITERACY GRADUATION REQUIREMENT 

If you were admitted to FAU beginning  Fall 2018 but before Fall 2021 you may meet the Civic Literacy requirement by:

Successfully passing either POSX041 American Government or AMHX020 Introductory Survey Since 1877

OR 

Achieving the standard score on one of the following assessments:

  • AP Government and Politics: United States with a score of 3 or higher 
  • AP United States History with a score of 4 or higher 
  • CLEP: American Government with a score of 50 or higher 

OR

2018 Florida Civic Literacy Exam with a score of 60 higher (100 questions)


If you were admitted to FAU beginning  Fall 2021 or thereafter  you may meet the Civic Literacy requirement by:

Successfully passing either POSX041 American Government or AMHX020 Introductory Survey Since 1877

OR

  • Achieving the standard score on one of the following assessments:
  • AP Government and Politics: United States with a score of 3 or higher
  • AP United States History with a score of 4 or higher
  • CAMBRIDGE AICE History, US History, c 1789-1917 (AS-Level) with a score of A-E
  • CLEP: American Government with a score of 50 or higher
  • IB History: History of America with a score of 5-7

AND

  • U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Naturalization Test-Civics (U.S. history and government) with supplemental questions with a score of 60
  • 2021 Florida Civic Literacy Exam with a score of 60 higher (80 questions) Opening Fall 2021 

Test Center Regulations

Examinees are required to be professional, civil and respectful at all time while on the premises of the Test Center. All exams are continuously monitored by video and audio recording, physical walk-through, and through the observation window. The Test Center Staff may dismiss you from the test session for a violation of any of the Test Center Regulations, including exhibiting abusive behavior towards the Test Center Staff or other examinees. A brief security check upon entry to the test room.

Registration Information

  • You must be a currently enrolled student to take the exam.
  • The spelling of your name must match your ID exactly.
  • You must arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your testing time. Please be prompt. Late arrivals will not test.

What to Bring

You must bring one form of identification. It must be a government-issued, valid photo ID with signature, matching exactly the name you used when registering and on your ID. NO EXCEPTIONS. Listed below are the only acceptable forms of photo identification

  • Current driver's license   
  • FAU Owl Card

Hoodies, sweaters, jackets, coats or outerwear are NOT permitted in the testing rooms. It is suggested to dress accordingly (long sleeves) or you may not be permitted to test.
