This is an image of MCF-7 cells breast cancer cells engineered to overexpress the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR). Amplification of the EGFR gene causes resistance to hormone therapy in estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer. The cells were stained with an anti-EGFR (528) antibody. The image shows localization of EGFR on the membrane and inside the cell. The image was acquired with an IN-Cell Analyzer 6000 automated high-content confocal imager at 20X magnification. It captures how EGFR spreads through the cell architecture creating an intricate subcellular distribution pattern.
