The Ear

Abstract

The objective of this project is to improve the safety and overall quality of life for those who have auditory impairments with the use of an Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. Our design, The Ear, enables users to receive real-time information about different rooms throughout their home through an application on their smartphone. The Ear consists of the Central Processing Hub (CPH) and Sensing Modules. The CPH functions in the background to receive, sort, and transfer data between the application, database, and Sensor Modules. The Sensor Modules are placed throughout the house to detect sound, movement, and obtain visuals in different areas of the house. The modules are controlled through an application communicating to the AI via Wifi. The application informs the user if there is movement, loud sounds or changes in temperature and humidity and notifications are sent to the user via the Ear app. The AI “learns" about the user and others over time and the database stores images and user information that can be accessed via the app.
