Accessible Game Console

Abstract

Video games are made to entertain the public. Everyone should be able to feel the same joy and excitement when playing video games. However, most modern controllers are inaccessible to certain individuals who have nerve damage and disabilities of the hand. For example, these individuals may be incapable of reaching all the controls as that sort of movement is uncomfortable for them. Our project aims to create an accessible controller to allow those with these issues to feel included when playing video games. This is accomplished by creating a controller with a singular joystick and just four buttons. These buttons, and any movement of the joystick, can be mapped to any individual input on the video game. This means that the inputs are completely customizable, allowing users to include inputs that are the most comfortable for their specific needs. Additionally, as the controller contains only four buttons and a single joystick, we are reducing the hand movement immensely, which can increase the comfortability of the overall experience.
