Graduate Students
Omar Rodriguez
NGP Graduate Student Rotation Spring 2026
Bio: Omar is a doctoral student in the Neuroscience Graduate Program at FAU. In the NGP, he is actively exploring his research interests into the mechanisms of the brain in typical and disordered contexts, such as traumatic brain injuries and neurodegenerative diseases, while considering practical solutions for the latter.

Previously, he earned a bachelor's degree in Neuroscience from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. There, he was introduced to research through a clinical project that assessed the effects of live musical performances as an alternative therapy for depression and agitation in older adults with dementia. After graduation, he became the lab manager for Dr. Tracy Centanni’s GAPP Lab at the University of Florida, supporting projects involving neuroimaging (EEG) and interventions for communication disorders. A central part of this role involved collecting high-density EEG data on the perception and expectation of musical rhythms and tones, aiming to explore the shared neural resources involved in processing both reading and music.
Outside of the lab, you can find Omar watching sports, at a record store, trying new coffee shops, and spending time with his favorite people and dog, Grace.
