As technology advances and our reliance on connected devices grows, it's more important than ever to ensure the security and privacy of our data. One of the promises of upcoming 5G/6G systems is to offer increased performance in terms of coverage and performance, but as the number of connected devices per NextG system increases, so does the attack surface for cyberthreats.
Our team is focused on integrating concepts from quantum-safe device-level security, wireless networking, security management, and network evaluation to develop end-to-end quantum-resistant security protocols that protect data in-transit and at-rest. Our research involves investigating quantum-safe cryptography algorithms for IoT devices deployed in NextG systems, efficient quantum-safe certificate management in NextG systems, and end-to-end deployment and evaluation of quantum-safe cryptography in NextG systems.
Our ultimate goal is to bring significant benefits to society by increasing the security of everyday connections against the attacks from sponsored attackers with future access to quantum computers, benefiting both defense and commercial entities. Additionally, we are committed to offering training opportunities for under-represented students to conduct quantum-cryptographic research on a real-life 5G testbed.
