FAU Faculty Awarded Patent for Invention

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued patent number 8,799,017 to FAU faculty for their invention titled “Apparatus and Method for Managing Interaction-Based Services.” The invention is a new software system that manages patient health information gained from nurses' perspectives - such as conversations, observations, and diagnoses - to better improve healthcare to patients. The software was created by FAU Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science faculty Shihong Huang Ph.D., associate professor, Abhijit Pandya, Ph.D., professor, Sam Hsu, Ph.D., professor emeritus and College of Nursing faculty member, Marilyn Parker, R.N., Ph.D., F.A.A.N., professor emeritus.
