Florida Atlantic University’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in the College of Engineering and Computer Science recently hosted the 2025 NSF Computer Systems Research (CSR) Principal Investigator Meeting, held September 18–19 in Boca Raton. The event brought together researchers from across the nation funded by the NSF CSR program to share new ideas, present cutting-edge research, and build collaborations that will shape the future of computer systems research.
The meeting featured keynote talks, PI presentations, lightning talk sessions, poster discussions, and breakout sessions. These formats encouraged both formal and informal exchanges, allowing participants to explore new directions in hardware and software design, performance profiling, sensor systems, human–computer interaction, and emerging interdisciplinary applications.
Networking and collaboration were central to the meeting’s success. Participants had the opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue, identify common challenges, and explore new partnerships. Poster sessions gave researchers at all levels an opportunity to showcase their work, receive feedback, and spark ideas for future projects. Six breakout sessions were organized with a focus on identifying future directions in computer systems research.
Hosting this event at FAU highlighted the university’s growing role as a hub for systems research and innovation. Students and faculty not only gained direct exposure to national leaders in the field but also contributed to shaping conversations about the next generation of research challenges. The event also laid the groundwork for new collaborations across institutions, paving the way for future joint publications, proposals, and shared initiatives.
Special recognition goes to the organizing team led by Professor Hari Kalva, as well as the local organizing committee whose efforts ensured the event ran seamlessly. The state-of-the-art facilities in FAU’s Executive Education building provided an ideal backdrop for presentations, discussions, and networking opportunities.
As the momentum from this meeting continues, the College of Engineering and Computer Science looks forward to supporting ongoing collaborations, developing new research projects, and sharing insights with the broader FAU community. The 2025 NSF CSR PI Meeting was not only a milestone for systems research nationally, but also a powerful example of FAU’s leadership in advancing innovation and discovery.
