Researcher is New ASP President

Amy Wright, Ph.D., research professor in the marine biomedical and biotechnology research group at FAU Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, recently began her term as president of the American Society of Pharmacognosy (ASP).

ASP, founded in 1959 to promote and develop the study of medicinal drugs from natural sources, has 1,100 members from more than 60 countries.

Prior to her presidency, Wright was one of 30 ASP fellows. Wright, who is also a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, has almost four decades of experience in marine natural products research, more than 100 publications, and 33 patents for medical uses of marine natural products. She also earned more than $23 million in research grants and contract funding, participated in numerous research expeditions to collect marine organisms and conducted more than 235 dives in the Johnson-Sea-Link and Clelia submersibles.
