Peace Monkey
Videography by Angel Nichols, Ph.D., faculty, Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters
El Mono de La Paz or peace monkey is a photo of a young a curious monkey that took a short break from eating fruit in the trees to say hello. This photo shows how a newly found community of peace signatories in the Amazon coexist with nature. Wild animals are often found in and around the small, rural community where former rebels work to fully reincorporate into society. After years in the jungle, many people in this community have a deep understanding of how to coexist with wild animals. In the early morning you can usually see several of these curious monkeys searching for fruit or raiding the chicken coop for an easy meal. They swing through the trees making sweet little sounds.
