Florida Atlantic’s Department of Music presents concerts for every taste this Spring. The concerts all take place in the University Theatre on the Boca Raton campus at 777 Glades Road. Tickets range from $10 to $20 and are available at www.fauevents.com or by calling 561-297-6124.

Owlbones and the APEI Project at the Movies. Thursday, March 27, 7 p.m. The FAU Trombone Studio, in combination with musicians, artists, producers, and members of the Spring 2024 Arts Performance & Entrepreneurship Initiative, will present a program full of some of everyone’s favorite Hollywood soundtracks. You are more than welcome to wear your favorite costume from your favorite movies.

Pictures at an Exhibition. Friday, March 28, 7 p.m. The acclaimed Florida Atlantic Wind Ensemble, conducted by Kyle Prescott, DMA, brings Mussorgsky’s epic "Pictures at an Exhibition to life" on stage. From the first notes of the Promenade through the thunderous climax of the Great Gate at Kiev, this masterpiece is best appreciated in-person.

Prism Concert: Symphony Band and Chamber Winds. Wednesday, April 2, 7 p.m. Celebrating great music for winds and percussion, featuring a variety of chamber ensembles staged throughout the theatre as well as a full concert band on stage. Conducted by Marc Decker, DMA.

Bridging Gaps and Creating Opportunity; Florida Atlantic Jazz Orchestra. Thursday, April 3, 7 p.m. Community can be defined as a group of people with a common characteristic or interest living together within a larger society or a feeling of fellowship with others as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals. Music is a discipline, art, has no border, and brings a like-minded community to fellowship together. Please join Courtney Jones, DMA the Florida Atlantic Jazz Orchestra, and members of our community as we present a concert showcasing the healing power of music.

Commercial Music Ensembles. Saturday, April 5, 7 p.m. The Commercial Music Ensembles at Florida Atlantic University offer an eclectic range of performance options. Ensembles are formed based on genres, such as Latin, rock, metal, funk, grunge, punk, Top 40, or folk.

An Afternoon of Percussion. Sunday, April 6, 3 p.m. Join us for an afternoon of chamber music performed by the students of Florida Atlantic Percussion Studio. This concert will showcase music from early percussion composers such as John Cage and Lou Harrison and modern repertoire by accomplished musicians that have impacted the art over the past half-century.

Musical Tales of Star-Crossed Lovers: The City of the Sun God. Thursday, April 10, 7 p.m. This concert will feature a collaboration between the Symphony Orchestra conducted by Laura Joella, DMA, and Vocalis conducted by Stacie Lee Rossow, DMA. The concert will begin in the with a trip aboard a doomed sailing ship with a cursed captain in the Prelude and Spinning Chorus from Wagner’s “The Flying Dutchman,” followed by prophecies of power and murder in the Prelude and Witches’ Chorus from Verdi’s “Macbeth.” Feel the joie de vivre in Ravel’s “Valses Nobles et Sentimentales.” Enjoy Prokofiev’s passionate and heartbreaking musical suite from “Romeo and Juliet.” Hear the hypnotic, rhythmic drive of the music of the Funeral of Amenhotep III from Philip Glass’s opera, “Akhnaten,” which celebrates the rise and fall of the City of the Sun God.

Chamber SIngers and Vocalis present Spiritual Spaces. Friday, April 11, 7 p.m. Join the choral organizations as they explore music which opens us to all places we find spiritual. The Chamber Singers are directed by Patricia P. Fleitas, DMA and Vocalis is directed by Stacie Lee Rossow, DMA.
