Florida Atlantic University’s Department of Music in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters will present the U.S. premiere of the revival of the long-forgotten opera “Amalia e Carlo”  on Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. in the University Theatre, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. Originally written in 1812 by Pietro Carlo Guglielmi, the opera has been revived through a scholarly edition by Barbara Salani, Ph.D., of FAU. Tickets are available through FAU’s box office.

“Amalia e Carlo” explores themes of love and intrigue and offers a vivid look into the socio-political and cultural landscape of Napoleonic Italy. The performance will feature a full orchestra, original costumes and an international cast and crew under the artistic direction of Mitchell Hutchings, DMA, of FAU’s Department of Music, and orchestra conductor Maestro Giovanni Di Stefano of the Puccini Conservatory.

The debut crowns the Guglielmi Festival, which runs from Wednesday, Oct. 15 through Sunday, Oct. 19. The collaboration between FAU’s Department of Music and Italian Studies in the School of Communication and Multimedia Studies, and the Conservatorio “G. Puccini” di La Spezia, is dedicated to rediscovering Tuscan composers Pietro Carlo Guglielmi (1772–1817) and Pietro Alessandro Guglielmi (1728–1804) through scholarship and performance.
