Housing Renewals for Fall 2024 - Spring 2025
 starting on February 5 at 9:00 a.m. - February 7 at 5:00 p.m.

The housing application and roommate matching with be available online through the Housing Portal which requires the student's NetID and password.

Spring residents who renew their housing application DO NOT pay the $100 non-refundable application fee.

The Department of Housing & Residential Education is anticipating a high demand for housing for the Fall 2024 - Spring 2054 academic year. We have a limited amount of spaces for returning students for the next academic year on campus. Housing Assignments will be by the resident’s Priority Group and Tuition Deposit Date. NOT by Application date.

  • Priority groups are based on the student’s year of entry.
  • Within each priority group housing assignments will be determined by the student’s tuition deposit date to the university.
  • If students are part of a roommate group, the roommate’s year of entry and tuition deposit date will also be a consideration.


All first-year students who started during Summer/Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 are required to live on-campus for two years. If all on-campus housing spaces are filled after Priority Group 1 students are assigned housing, then other priority group students will be waitlisted.

Spring residential students who started during summer and fall 2023 or spring 2024 as a first-year student. These students are required to live on-campus for their 2nd year at Wilkes Honors College.

Wilkes Honors College spring residential students may complete a housing application and roommate matching only during these dates.

  • Up to four students are allowed in a roommate group for returning students.
  • Complete your housing application and then VISIT the roommate selection part of the application to complete the roommate group or request roommates.

You can review room rates here. The following housing options are available for returning students for Fall 2024 – Spring 2025:

Residence Hall 1 and 2: 

  • A single bedroom in a 4-person/1 bathroom suite.
  • A shared double bedroom/ 1 bathroom suite. 

Residence Hall 3:

  • A single bedroom in a 4-person/1 bathroom suite.
  • A single room in a 2-person/1 bathroom suite.

Important Dates

  • February 26: Residents who complete an application during the renewal process will receive their assignment notification or waitlist information.  
  • March 1 by 5:00 pm: Residents who are not required to live on-campus for a 2nd year may cancel their application and housing assignment without penalty and without cause. 
  • March 1 after 5:00 pm: The Terms and Conditions of the Housing Application apply. All cancellation requests must meet the cancellation conditions outlined in Section 11 of the Housing application Terms and Conditions.

Steps For Your Housing Application Renewal

  1. Select the 2024 – 2025 Academic year application.
  2. Agree to the Terms and Conditions of the application by completing the DocuSign page with your signature. Select Save and Continue.
  3. Review your Personal Details and update your cell phone number if needed.
  4. Update your Emergency Contact.
  5. Answer all General Questions.  This includes if you want to request Gender Inclusive Housing. It is important that your Gender Inclusive housing answer match that of your roommates or you will not be able to match with your roommate. 
  6. Add three Room Type Preferences. Available room preferences are also on our room rates webpage to review in advance.
  7. Answer the Lifestyle Questions. If you plan to search and match with roommate(s) you must check “Display in Roommate Search results” on the Lifestyle Questions page of the housing application. This allow students to view your profile and request you as a roommate.
  8. Select your meal plan.
  9. Enter your student Z number on the Confirmation page to complete your housing application. This is the final step to complete your housing application.
  10. You will receive an email confirmation after you complete your housing application. Make sure you check your FAU student email.
  11. If you plan to request a roommate(s) return to the Housing application to start a roommate group or accept roommate requests.  You may only add or request roommates who have completed a 2024 – 2025 Academic Year housing application.

Roommate Matching

To request a roommate, a student must have a completed housing application for Fall 2024 – Spring 2025. Students must complete their application first and then VISIT the Roommate Selection page of the application to match with roommate(s).

On the LifeStyles Question page of the housing application you must check "Display in Roommate Search results and participate in roommate matching” if you want your profile to be visible for roommate searching and matching. This will allow students to view your profile and request you as a roommate.

  • You may only request roommates with a completed housing application for Fall 2024 – Spring 2025.
  • Roommate requests expire by February 7, 2024 by 5:00 p.m.
  • Roommate groups may be groups of 2,3 or 4 students.
  • Search for roommate(s) by their Z#, if  they do not display in the search results check the following: 
    • They did not complete a housing application.
    • They did not opt in to be part of the roommate search results.
    • Your answers to Gender Inclusive housing do not match.
  • Check your FAU email frequently for roommate requests and changes.
  • Students should discuss in advance if they are matching with a roommate and they will have an approved ESA or in-process of an approval for an emotional support animal (ESA) or Service Animal. Residents must receive approval through Student Accessibility Services for an ESA. Please follow the deadlines for housing accommodations.
  • Housing and Residential Education does not cancel or change student roommate requests. The roommate selection and matching process is managed by students through the roommate selection process. 
  • Students accept or decline roommate requests through the Housing Portal, click on the 2024 – 2025 Academic Year application and go to Roommate Selection.

 

What is a group leader? 

  • The student who starts the roommate group will become the group leader.
  • They are responsible for managing the roommate requests (accepting or declining requests). And they are responsible for sending out roommate requests and making sure the roommate group is completed by February 7 at 5:00 p.m.
  • If you know who you will request as roommate(s), decide in advance who will be the roommate group leader.  
  • You may only have one group leader and they should enter the Z# and select “Send Roommate Request” to each roommate(s).  

 

Tips for Finding a Roommate

  • Search by Details:
    • Allows you to enter a Z number. This is useful if you already know the person you are going to request as a roommate.
    • If you know who you want in your roommate group, plan in advance who will be your GROUP LEADER.
    • You become a GROUP LEADER when you send a roommate request.
    • The GROUP LEADER manages the roommate group requests.
      • Only one person should request roommates for the entire group. The GROUP LEADER should enter the Z# and select "Send Roommate Request" to each roommate.
      • Requested roommates will receive an email and must accept the roommate request through the Fall 2024 – Spring 2025 housing application. You may match up to four students in a roommate group.
  • Search by Suggest Roommates:
    • Suggests roommates who closely match your Lifestyle questions.
    • You may send a roommate request to a student when you search for Suggest Roommates.
    • You automatically become a GROUP LEADER when you request a roommate.
      • Students will receive an email for roommate request(s). To accept a roommate request, you must accept the roommate request through the Fall 2024 – Spring 2025 housing application. You may match up to four students in a group.
