Housing Renewals for Fall 2024 - Spring 2025
starting on February 5 at 9:00 a.m. - February 7 at 5:00 p.m.

The housing application and roommate matching with be available online through the Housing Portal which requires the student's NetID and password.

Spring residents who renew their housing application DO NOT pay the $100 non-refundable application fee.

The Department of Housing & Residential Education is anticipating a high demand for housing for the Fall 2024 - Spring 2054 academic year. We have a limited amount of spaces for returning students for the next academic year on campus. Housing Assignments will be by the resident’s Priority Group and Tuition Deposit Date. NOT by Application date.

Priority groups are based on the student’s year of entry.
Within each priority group housing assignments will be determined by the student’s tuition deposit date to the university.
If students are part of a roommate group, the roommate’s year of entry and tuition deposit date will also be a consideration.

All first-year students who started during Summer/Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 are required to live on-campus for two years. If all on-campus housing spaces are filled after Priority Group 1 students are assigned housing, then other priority group students will be waitlisted.

1st Priority Group	1st Priority Group Spring residential students who started during summer and fall 2023 or spring 2024 as a first-year student. These students are required to live on-campus for their 2nd year at Wilkes Honors College.
2nd Priority Group	2nd Priority Group Spring residential students who started during 2022 or spring 2023 and Transfer residential students who started during 2023 or 2024.
3rd Priority Group	3rd Priority Group Spring residential students who started during 2021.
4th Priority Group	Spring residential students who started during 2020.

Wilkes Honors College spring residential students may complete a housing application and roommate matching only during these dates.

Up to four students are allowed in a roommate group for returning students.
Complete your housing application and then VISIT the roommate selection part of the application to complete the roommate group or request roommates.

You can review room rates here. The following housing options are available for returning students for Fall 2024 – Spring 2025:

Residence Hall 1 and 2:

A single bedroom in a 4-person/1 bathroom suite.
A shared double bedroom/ 1 bathroom suite.

Residence Hall 3:

A single bedroom in a 4-person/1 bathroom suite.
A single room in a 2-person/1 bathroom suite.

Important Dates

February 26: Residents who complete an application during the renewal process will receive their assignment notification or waitlist information.
March 1 by 5:00 pm: Residents who are not required to live on-campus for a 2nd year may cancel their application and housing assignment without penalty and without cause.
March 1 after 5:00 pm: The Terms and Conditions of the Housing Application apply. All cancellation requests must meet the cancellation conditions outlined in Section 11 of the Housing application Terms and Conditions.

Steps For Your Housing Application Renewal

Select the 2024 – 2025 Academic year application.
Agree to the Terms and Conditions of the application by completing the DocuSign page with your signature. Select Save and Continue.
Review your Personal Details and update your cell phone number if needed.
Update your Emergency Contact.
Answer all General Questions. This includes if you want to request Gender Inclusive Housing. It is important that your Gender Inclusive housing answer match that of your roommates or you will not be able to match with your roommate.
Add three Room Type Preferences. Available room preferences are also on our room rates webpage to review in advance.
Answer the Lifestyle Questions. If you plan to search and match with roommate(s) you must check “Display in Roommate Search results” on the Lifestyle Questions page of the housing application. This allow students to view your profile and request you as a roommate.
Select your meal plan.
Enter your student Z number on the Confirmation page to complete your housing application. This is the final step to complete your housing application.
You will receive an email confirmation after you complete your housing application. Make sure you check your FAU student email.
If you plan to request a roommate(s) return to the Housing application to start a roommate group or accept roommate requests. You may only add or request roommates who have completed a 2024 – 2025 Academic Year housing application.

Roommate Matching

To request a roommate, a student must have a completed housing application for Fall 2024 – Spring 2025. Students must complete their application first and then VISIT the Roommate Selection page of the application to match with roommate(s).

On the LifeStyles Question page of the housing application you must check "Display in Roommate Search results and participate in roommate matching” if you want your profile to be visible for roommate searching and matching. This will allow students to view your profile and request you as a roommate.

You may only request roommates with a completed housing application for Fall 2024 – Spring 2025.
Roommate requests expire by February 7, 2024 by 5:00 p.m.
Roommate groups may be groups of 2,3 or 4 students.
Search for roommate(s) by their Z#, if they do not display in the search results check the following:
- They did not complete a housing application.
- They did not opt in to be part of the roommate search results.
- Your answers to Gender Inclusive housing do not match.
Check your FAU email frequently for roommate requests and changes.
Students should discuss in advance if they are matching with a roommate and they will have an approved ESA or in-process of an approval for an emotional support animal (ESA) or Service Animal. Residents must receive approval through Student Accessibility Services for an ESA. Please follow the deadlines for housing accommodations.
Housing and Residential Education does not cancel or change student roommate requests. The roommate selection and matching process is managed by students through the roommate selection process.
Students accept or decline roommate requests through the Housing Portal, click on the 2024 – 2025 Academic Year application and go to Roommate Selection.

What is a group leader?

The student who starts the roommate group will become the group leader.
They are responsible for managing the roommate requests (accepting or declining requests). And they are responsible for sending out roommate requests and making sure the roommate group is completed by February 7 at 5:00 p.m.
If you know who you will request as roommate(s), decide in advance who will be the roommate group leader.
You may only have one group leader and they should enter the Z# and select “Send Roommate Request” to each roommate(s).

Tips for Finding a Roommate

Search by Details:
- Allows you to enter a Z number. This is useful if you already know the person you are going to request as a roommate.
- If you know who you want in your roommate group, plan in advance who will be your GROUP LEADER.
- You become a GROUP LEADER when you send a roommate request.
- The GROUP LEADER manages the roommate group requests.
  - Only one person should request roommates for the entire group. The GROUP LEADER should enter the Z# and select "Send Roommate Request" to each roommate.
  - Requested roommates will receive an email and must accept the roommate request through the Fall 2024 – Spring 2025 housing application. You may match up to four students in a roommate group.

Search by Suggest Roommates:
- Suggests roommates who closely match your Lifestyle questions.
- You may send a roommate request to a student when you search for Suggest Roommates.
- You automatically become a GROUP LEADER when you request a roommate.
  - Students will receive an email for roommate request(s). To accept a roommate request, you must accept the roommate request through the Fall 2024 – Spring 2025 housing application. You may match up to four students in a group.

General Roommate FAQ’s

I completed a housing application but I am unable to find the person I would like to request as a roommate.
- Talk to this person that you are trying to request to make sure that person completed a housing application for 2024-2025. They must have a completed housing application.
- Make sure they have the same answer to Gender Inclusive Housing on the General Questions page of the housing application.
- Make sure they have checked the box to participate in roommate matching on the Lifestyle Questions page of the housing application.

Do I have to request a roommate or accept a roommate request? No, you do not have to request a roommate. If you receive a roommate request you may decline the roommate request or allow the request to expire. If you do not decline the roommate request, all roommate requests expire within 2 days.
If my roommates that I matched with cancel, can I request a new roommate after the housing renewal process is over? Unfortunately, you may not add or change roommates’ requests after 5:00 p.m. on February 7.
How can I request an incoming new FAU student as my roommate? Students participating in the housing renewal process are only able to request roommates who are current residents that have completed a 2024 -2025 academic year housing application.
Should I share if I have or plan to get an emotional support animal (ESA) or Service Animal? Students should discuss in advance if they are matching with a roommate and they will have an approved ESA or in-process of an approval for an emotional support animal (ESA) or Service Animal. Residents must receive approval through Student Accessibility Services for an ESA. Please follow the deadlines for housing accommodations.

Waitlist Frequently Asked Questions

I received a notification that I am waitlisted, what does this mean? Students who are notified that they are waitlisted will remain active for housing placement as long as they do not cancel their housing application. Housing assignments for waitlisted students will be made throughout the summer and up through the second week of fall classes. Waitlisted students have two options:
- Stay on the housing waitlist. The housing department will provide frequent updates to waitlisted applicants. We anticipate being able to accommodate many students from the waiting list, especially in the weeks preceding fall opening.
- Waitlisted applicants may cancel their housing application. There is no financial penalty as long as cancellation occurs prior to being assigned a space. In order to cancel, you must complete the housing cancellation form at fau.edu/housing/cancellation/. This gives you the flexibility if you sign a lease elsewhere and/or if you no longer need on-campus housing, you may cancel without any financial penalty.
I submitted everything on time, I don’t understand why I am on the waitlist? Demand for on-campus housing is very high. The university has separate housing spaces for incoming first year students and current students renewing their housing applications.
What are my chances of receiving a space if I continue to stay on the waitlist? This depends on how many students also continue to stay on the waitlist, and how many students cancel their housing application. We expect to accommodate some additional students that are on the waitlist. Many students who are on the waitlist make alternative arrangements and cancel from the waitlist. This means that students who are in a position to wait for a space can often be accommodated to live on campus. Please note, this is not a guarantee. Every student’s circumstances are different. If you are in a situation where you can wait, it can often increase your chances for being able to obtain a space.
In what order was the waitlist determined? Priority is based on your year of entry into the university and your tuition deposit date for admitted semester.
Does a student who lives out of state have a better chance of getting pulled from the waitlist than someone who resides in commuting distance? A student’s living distance from the university may be taken into consideration, however, priority is primarily based on the criteria explained previously in question #4.
What do you recommend for out-of-area students who are placed on the waitlist? You can review the list of off-campus properties on the Off-Campus Housing website: offcampushousing.fau.edu/. FAU does not own or manage any Off-Campus Housing properties and these are third-party listings that you would be responsible for communicating with directly. We do encourage students to remain on the waitlist if their circumstances allow them to do so.
Will I know if I have an assignment before the Fall semester begins? Housing assignments for the Fall 2024 - Spring 2025 semester will be made throughout the summer and up through the second week of fall classes. Please continue to check your FAU student email throughout the summer for important housing status updates.
Can I be refunded the $100 application fee if I am put on the waitlist? Spring residents who renewed this housing application did not pay a $100 hosing application.
If I am on the waitlist and I have not been assigned a space, do I still have to adhere to Cancellation fees and criteria for application termination? Students who are waitlisted may cancel their housing application without a financial penalty. This is option 8 on the cancellation form. You may cancel your Housing Application prior to being assigned without financial penalty. However, once you receive an assignment, you must adhere to the Terms and Conditions of the Housing Application. It is extremely important that you cancel your housing application prior to being assigned housing if you plan to find other housing options.
If I do not get housing for Fall, will I be able to fill out a Spring only application? If you remain on the waitlist and are not assigned housing for the Fall semester, we will offer to transfer your housing application to the Spring 2025 semester. We will send communication to your FAU email address in September to confirm if you would like your housing application transferred to the Spring 2025 application term.
Will waitlisted students be matched with their requested roommates? Unfortunately, we will not be able to assign waitlisted students with their requested roommate(s) as housing assignments will be made based on available spaces.
I know someone with an assignment who intends to cancel. Can I have their spot? No, assignments are made based on your placement on the waitlist.
If I am selected from the waitlist, will my preferences be honored? Preferences will be taken into consideration. However, due to the demand for housing, room preferences cannot be guaranteed. Waitlisted students will be assigned the next available room space as we receive cancellations.
Who can I contact to find out an update on my waitlist status? Your waitlist number is updated ion 2024 -2025 housing application. Please log in to the Housing Portal to check for update to your waitlist number.
What if I am selected from the waitlist but do not want to accept my assignment, my roommates and/or cannot afford the assignment? When we assign students from the waitlist, we do consider their room type and roommate preferences, however, they are subject to availability. If you have parameters that restrict what you are willing to accept for on-campus housing, you may want to consider other alternative options for Off Campus housing. Demand is very high and we will likely be limited to what is available at the time of assignment. Please note, once a student is assigned from the waitlist, they will be bound to the terms and conditions of the housing application. This includes being financially liable to the costs for on-campus living. It is important you consider your financial circumstances prior to being assigned.
