VR Gloves with Haptic Feedback

Abstract

Turning imagination into reality has become possible with recent advancements in the VR world. To take advantage of such progress, our team took on a VR project that integrates virtual gaming with controlling gloves to provide haptic feedback. This project contains two stages. The first stage is VR game development and the second is haptic glove development. The two stages are combined using the HTC Vive controller system. In the first stage, we deliver three VR experiences that demonstrate the utility of the gloves. Skeeball allows users to interact with dynamic physical objects in the same way they would in real life, while the piano and shooting games show the use of moving individual fingers. In the second stage, flex sensors are used to read the degree of motion on the user's fingers. Vibration motors are also placed in between each major joint in the hand along with matrix of actuators on the palm to create haptic feedback.  These systems together allow the user to control movement, direction, and action while heightening their sense of touch through accurate feedback. This creates a better gaming experience and serves as a pioneer for the endless possibilities between virtual and real-world interactions.
