Florida Atlantic’s Department of Theatre and Dance in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters has announced its summer lineup for Festival Repertory Theatre 2025. The shows will take place in the Marleen Forkas Studio One Theatre and the University Theatre, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. Neil Simon's “Rumors,” which will run from Friday, June 13 through Sunday, June 28, is a fast-paced comedy set in 1988 that revolves around four couples who gather for a 10th wedding anniversary celebration at the affluent home of Deputy Mayor of New York Charley Brock and his wife Myra. The misadventures begin with Charley being shot and Myra going missing, and panic ensues as the guests attempt to keep the situation under control with increasingly elaborate antics to shield Charlie and, more importantly, themselves from scandal. Simon’s mastery of storytelling and comedic dialogue creates a satirical take on the lives of the affluent as he weaves a tale that is both entertaining and thought-provoking.
“Freaky Friday the Musical,” running from Friday, July 11 through Sunday, July 27, is a heartwarming and hilarious adaptation based on Mary Rodgers' novel and the beloved Disney films by Bridget Carpenter. This musical follows the story of Katherine and Ellie Blake, a mother and daughter who magically switch bodies on the eve of Katherine's wedding. As they navigate each other's lives, they discover the challenges and joys of their respective worlds. With music by Tom Kitt and lyrics by Brian Yorkey, this production offers a fun-filled adventure of laughs and squabbles, exploring themes of family, understanding, and love. Featuring a talented cast and a lively score, “Freaky Friday” is a must-see for anyone with a perfectly imperfect family.
To round out Festival Rep, there will be two big band concerts on
Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22.
The concerts feature the Florida Wind Symphony Jazz Orchestra, a professional ensemble-in-residence at FAU presenting an evening of hits from the 30s, 40s and 50s, including authentic music of big band sensations like Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman.
