THE JURORS:
Michelle Weinberg
Multimedia artist Michelle Weinberg constructs rich theatrical narratives through murals, tiles, painting and
collage. Her experimentation with perspective, geometry, and architecture results in energetic eye-catching
backdrops for human activity that can be found all throughout Miami. She has been a recipient of multiple
fellowships and residencies, and has shown with the Dorsch and Farside galleries in Miami, in the Cyan Gallery
in Barcelona, The Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington DC, and the Nordisk kunts Platform in Norway. Weinberg
received her BFA from the School of Visual Arts in NYC and her MFA from Philadelphia’s Tyler School of Art;
since then, she has been a visiting artist and instructor in multiple universities, including FAU, MIU, and the
Transart Institute in Linz, Austria. In addition, she served as Artistic Director at the Art and Cultural Center of
Hollywood and is currently the Creative Director of Fort Lauderdale’s Girls’ Club.

Sibel Kocabasi
Painter Sibel Kocabasi’s work is distinctive in its fascinating dichotomy between tradition and the contemporary.
Her background in traditional Turkish art and narrative, along with a passion for experimentation and transformation
results in vivid abstractions that tackle history, religion, identity, suppression, and human regard for the planet.
She received her BFA from Marmara University of Fine Arts in Istanbul, focusing on Turkish Traditional Arts which
include rug-kilim design, natural dyes, conservation and restoration of textiles, and illumination of manuscripts. After
she moved to the United Sates, Kocabasi pursued a Masters’ degree in painting at Florida Atlantic University. She
has been involved in teaching as an Adjunct Professor at FAU, PBC, the Armory Art Center, the Lighthouse Art Center,
and Very Special Arts. Kocabasi exhibits both nationally and internationally, and has curated several exhibitions in
Turkey and Florida. In addition, her paintings have earned her the 2006 Hector Ubertalli Visual Arts Award and the
2010 South Florida Cultural Consortium’s Visual and Media Artists Fellowship.
