MA Alum Charlie Richards to Present at "Zeitgenosse Hoffmann” Symposium

Congratulations to FAU English Alum (BA '19; MA '22) and current Ph.D. student Charlie Richards on the acceptance of his paper—on Olimpia in E.T.A. Hoffmann’s Der Sandmann—for presentation at the “Zeitgenosse Hoffmann” symposium in November.

The symposium "Contemporary Hoffmann - In the field of tension between automated and artistic-individual music production" [»Zeitgenosse Hoffmann – Im Spannungsfeld von automatisierter und künstlerisch-individueller Musikproduktion«]  in the State Institute for Music Research - Prussian Cultural Heritage on November 11 & 12 2022 takes up the annual theme of the SIMPK on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Hoffmann's death. On the one hand, it is dedicated to his reception in compositions of the 20th and 21st centuries and, on the other hand, it will follow his ambivalent fascination for musical automata, which alternates between attraction and fear, as it appears in his stories The Sandman or The Automata, to the present day.
