Congratulations to Prof. Stacey Balkan publication of an essay, "Cycling: Is Cycling a Solution?" in Power Shift: Keywords for a New Politics of Energy .

The collection offers a broad range of snappy definitions/histories designed to orient students (and the general public!) to the complicated terrain of energy transition, renewability, and such thorny concepts as “degrowth.” 

Prof. Balkan's essay on cycling continues her work on cycle justice and attends to the competing cultural valences attended to this oft-maligned mode of conveyance—a mode that, following Ivan Illich, Balkan centers in her new monograph project as an instantiation of a radical cadence that may finally liberate us from our sedimented petrohabits.
