Andy Furman's Of Slash Pines and Manatees, Honorable Mention in 2025 Florida Book Awards

Congratulations to Prof. Andrew Furman! Of Slash Pines and Manatees: A Highly Selective Field Guide to My Suburban Wilderness has been selected for an Honorable Mention in the 2025 Florida Book Awards Florida Nonfiction category. 

Established in 2006, The Florida Book Awards (FBA) recognizes, honors, and celebrates the best literature published each year by Florida authors or about our state.  Prof. Furman's book was one of more than 160 entries submitted across eleven categories this year, and there was a very strong pool of submissions. 

This achievement will be recognized with:

• A series of in-person events in Tallahassee
• Placing a copy of Prof. Furman's book in Florida State University’s permanent collection of Florida Book Award Winners
• Recognition on the website with Prof. Furman's photo and author bio
• Inclusion in FORUM Magazine , the magazine of Florida Humanities
• And medal stickers, which can be placed on Prof. Furman's book

For those who already own a copy, I’m not sure if the medal stickers can be added retroactively, but this is a great accomplishment. Congratulations, Prof. Furman!
