Barbara Spring 2025 Grad

A big congratulations to all of our PhD Spring 2025 Graduates! Dr. Annabelle Campbell, Matt Prater, Dr. Kristina Ramskyte-Juszczak, Dr. Ricardo Sabogal-Suji, Dr. Barbara Salani, Dr. Caroline Louise Asher Webb.

Here is a picture of one of our graduates, Dr. Barbara Salani. Dr. Barbara Salani received her Ph.D. in Comparative Studies with a focus on Musicology and Italian Studies from Florida Atlantic University. In this photo, she stands in front of the Department of Languages, Linguistics, and Comparative Literature with her committee chair, Dr. Ilaria Serra.

Barbara's dissertation, titled Amalia e Carlo (1812) by Pietro Carlo Guglielmi in Napoleonic Naples: Unearthing a Forgotten Opera, offers a significant contribution to historical musicology. Through a blend of philological analysis, socio-political history, and cultural-linguistic exploration, Dr. Salani reconstructs and revives an opera lost for over two centuries. She uncovered and critically edited the scattered manuscript scores of Amalia e Carlo and provided a fully notated transcription and English translation of Andrea Leone Tottola’s libretto, originally written in Italian and Neapolitan dialect. Her work highlights the opera’s historical resonance and musical innovations, while also reevaluating the contributions of Pietro Carlo Guglielmi and Andrea Leone Tottola to the Italian operatic tradition.
