Black-Throated Blue Warbler
Photography by Jay Paredes, Charles E. Schmidt College of Science
A male black-throated blue warbler (Setophaga caerulescens) is looking for insects in an oak tree canopy at a parking lot on Florida Atlantic’s Boca Raton campus. The campuses serve as an important stop over for migratory songbirds. In the fall and spring, it’s not just students that flock onto campus, sometimes hundreds of songbirds stop for food and shelter on their way to wintering or breeding grounds. This photo is part of the FAU Biosphere Project, an initiative to help document plants and animals that use the small habitats found throughout the campuses. The FAU Biosphere Project is led by Dianne Owen, Jasmine Coyle and Evelyn Frazier. More information can be found at: http://science.fau.edu/envirosci/biosphere/
