Faculty Assembly Admissions (M.D.) Committee

The College of Medicine Admissions Committee for the MD Program is entrusted with the crucial responsibility of selecting medical students based on their academic, experiential, and personal qualities, free from political or financial influences. Comprising a total of fifteen members, the committee consists primarily of faculty members from the College of Medicine, including both elected and appointed representatives, with a focus on maintaining a majority of faculty from the College of Medicine. Additionally, three medical students in good academic standing serve on the committee. Elected faculty members must meet specific eligibility criteria, such as having graduated from an accredited medical school or holding teaching roles in medical education. Terms for elected and appointed members are two years, with staggered initial terms.

The committee also includes ex-officio non-voting members who hold decanal positions within the College of Medicine. Furthermore, the committee ensures representation by students, with three students participating at any given time. The Chair of the committee is elected for a two-year term and may be re-elected for subsequent terms, with the Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Admissions or the Associate Dean for Educational Affairs and Admissions appointing an interim chair in the chair's temporary absence. The committee, which maintains quorum with a simple majority of voting members, ensures a rigorous and unbiased admission process for future medical students.
