Biology | Class of 2023

Quincy Thervil is a student pursuing a B.S. degree in Biological Sciences at the Charles E. Schmidt College of Science who expects to graduate in 2023. He attended Broward College as a dual-enrollment student, earning his high school diploma and Associates of Arts degree in biology in 2020 and transferred to FAU. "My interest in biology started when I was in the sixth grade when we were assigned to model all of the different parts of a cell out of clay. In high school I was in a medical magnet program. I knew biology was for me when I was able to genetically modify bacteria in order to make them resistant to antibiotics and fluorescence under ultraviolet light."

Thervil’s long-term goal is to attend medical school and be in the forefront of "curing disease, providing resources to people in poverty, and, most importantly, teaching others how to do the same." He counts organic chemistry and genetic among his favorite classes. At FAU Davie, he is the Operations Manager of the FAU Davie Student Union and a volunteer for Students Advocating Volunteer Involvement (SAVI). "Being an Operations Manager has made me more aware of the resources we have on campus to offer students. I have also learned how a positive work environment and working alongside people with similar mindsets can really inspire and strongly encourage them to become a better person," said Thervil, who counts his experience volunteering at SAVI events as his favorite experience at FAU. His SAVI experience also led to him being hired as Operations Manager at the Student Union.

Thervil, who was born in Miami and now lives in Dania Beach, enjoys sketching during his free time. "This is something that I have been doing since I was nine-years-old. It’s a very important stress managing strategy for me. I also think its relaxing tidying up around the house and playing video games."
