Accounting | Class of 2013

Celito Dorsainvil graduated from FAU in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree from the School of Accounting in the College of Business, and earned his Masters a year later. He is now an audit services manager for Grant Thornton, a prestigious accounting firm in Fort Lauderdale. His responsibilities include supervising and coordinating all services rendered to privately held clients in a variety of industries, with specific expertise in the consumer products, real estate, and hospitality industry.

Dorsainvil urges students who are interested in business to pursue an accounting major. "Accounting is viewed as the backbone of understanding how a business functions, grows and operates," he said. "When you have an understanding of the accounting side of a company it gives you a better understanding of other departments such as marketing, management, and financing." Dorsainvil praises FAU’s School of Accounting as being key to his success in his career. He remembers his course work being challenging – especially Intermediate Accounting 1. "It was the most difficult accounting course that I have taken at the onset of pursuing an accounting degree, but the professor that I had, Professor Sherry Young, made it enjoyable and challenged me to improve in order the pass her class. We still have a good relationship to this day!"

Dorsainvil said that at Grant Thornton he is responsible for resolving and managing external financial statement audits from start to finish. "I also aid in the billing process to ensure collections of engagement fees and I oversee a team that can range from four to ten individuals," he said. "I like my current role due to the camaraderie at the firm and the ability to grow professionally within the accounting field."

Among his favorite memories of being a student at the Davie campus were the block parties. "It brought so many different cultures together and really allowed me to see the other side of my classmates when they were with their families. All of the events that FAU sponsored for us really allowed me to enjoy my experience during my time there." Dorsainvil, who was born in Haiti and lives in Hollywood, enjoys soccer and traveling. "I have attended games in Brazil and in Russia – that’s the way to really enjoy the beautiful game."
