Aritra is an emerging researcher and educator with a passion for social justice, health equity, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Aritra received his PhD in Social Work (Epidemiology Minor) from University of Tennessee. Holding an undergraduate degree in commerce and a graduate degree in social work, he brings a unique perspective to his research and teaching, blending analytical rigor with a deep commitment to community well-being.
His professional journey began in India, where he worked closely with tribal and marginalized communities in remote rural areas. These experiences shaped his understanding of systemic inequities and fueled his dedication to advocating for vulnerable populations. Now, his work focuses on health equity, anti-racism, and actionable solutions to improve public health outcomes.
Aritra’s doctoral dissertation examined the intersection of social media misinformation and its effect on Covid-19 vaccine hesitancy. Recognizing the critical role of misinformation in shaping public opinion, he developed the Social Media COVID-19 Vaccine Misinformation Scale (SMCov-19VMS - 46) to measure how social media influences vaccine-related beliefs and behaviors in the U.S. population. Beyond this, he is deeply invested in studying healthcare access disparities and their impact on marginalized communities, striving to advance policies that promote equity and well-being.
As a scholar-practitioner, Aritra bridges academic inquiry with real-world impact, preparing to make meaningful contributions to social work and public health. His work is driven by a vision of justice, equity, and empowerment for all.
