Dr. Dennis Sarpong received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, his Master of Arts degree in Applied Sociology from Northern Arizona University, and his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice from Arizona State University. He is an assistant professor in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice at Florida Atlantic University. His research centers on policing, immigration, and the criminal justice system, and procedural justice, with a particular emphasis on police–immigrant interactions.
His work examines how trust, legitimacy, and identity shape cooperation between immigrant communities and police, and it challenges simplified narratives that frame these groups as inherent adversaries. Dr. Sarpong’s work has been published in notable outlets such as Criminal Justice and Behavior, Journal of Criminal Justice, and Criminology and Criminal Justice.
