New Research Examines Reentry for White-Collar Offenders
How does middle-class social status affect the reentry process for offenders convicted of white-collar crimes? A new article co-written by Diana Sun, Ph.D., assistant professor in the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, and Michael L. Benson, an emeritus professor from the University of Cincinnati, addresses this topic in Justice Quarterly. Entitled “Resiliency in Reentry, Sensitivity in Strangers: An Examination of White-Collar Offenders and Their Reentry Process,” the study builds upon the special resiliency theory to identify how white-collar offenders adjust to reentry after incarceration. Findings reveal signs of resiliencies mixed with heightened social sensitivities compared to other offenders.
