'Sick Leave' Research Takes Top Spot
“Is paid sick leave bad for business? A systematic review,” co-authored by LeaAnne DeRigne, PhD, MSW, professor in the Sandler School of Social Work (SSW), has been recognized as one of the most-read papers published by the American Journal of Industrial Medicine in 2023. The review finds evidence supporting the relationship between paid sick leave and favorable business conditions—including increased job satisfaction, improved retention, and reductions in occupational injury, contagion, presenteeism, and death, as well as some measures of firm performance and labor market conditions.
