World-Class Expertise, Local Impact: Florida Atlantic ‘School of the Environment’ Drives Solutions at Climate Leadership Summit
Tuesday, Dec 09, 2025
Join Florida Atlantic University’s School of Environmental, Coastal and Ocean Sustainability (ECOS) at the upcoming 17th annual Southeast Florida Climate Leadership Summit, on Tuesday, Dec. 16 and Wednesday, Dec. 17, at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in West Palm Beach. ECOS is a Diamond Sponsor of this year’s event, themed “Roots of Resilience: Cultivating a Sustainable Future.”
From scientists to students, along with nonprofit representatives, business leaders, government officials and community activists, the summit is a key opportunity for sharing innovative ideas, displaying successful climate initiatives and fostering collaborations to tackle pressing South Florida climate issues.
ECOS is taking a leadership role in the event. The school will have faculty and affiliate faculty involved, and it will also lead panel discussions and deliver keynote talks. ECOS Director Steve Vollmer, Ph.D., will provide the opening keynote on day two to discuss the state of coral reefs and how climate change and sustainability impact our oceans. ECOS will also host the welcome networking social on day one. The WLW-ECOS gift made this strategic sponsorship possible, immediately positioning ECOS, the Schmidt College of Science and Florida Atlantic as crucial partners and drivers in this essential focus area.
“The Climate Leadership Summit is the essential annual forum for Southeast Florida’s top resiliency leaders to convene, translate knowledge into action and strengthen the regional coalition. Florida Atlantic is situated at the focal point of these interconnected environmental and coastal challenges,” said Vollmer. “ECOS is not just attending; we are stepping up as a key sponsor. By sharing our world-class, cross-disciplinary research and working shoulder-to-shoulder with our partners in government, non-profits and industry, we are not only addressing these crucial environmental challenges but actively cultivating a sustainable future for the tri-county region and beyond. Our strategic leadership and principal sponsorship of this summit underscores that mission.”
Established in 2009, the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact is a partnership between Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe and Palm Beach counties to work collaboratively to reduce regional greenhouse gas emissions, implement adaptation strategies and build climate resilience across the Southeast Florida region.
