Spring to Summer Transitional Housing

If you are planning to stay on campus during the summer please complete your summer housing contract by April 15th at 5:00 p.m. Students who complete a summer 1 or summer 2 housing contract by April 10th do not pay the $100 non-refundable housing application fee. Students who complete a summer 1 or summer 2 housing contract may request spring to summer transitional housing by April 15th at 5:00 pm.

  • The cost for Transitional Housing is $520 and must be paid on student’s spring account by April 22nd.
  • Students here for transitional housing must relocate to their summer room on May 9th.
  • Housing facilities and staff members will be entering all spaces during the break.

Move-Out Process

All residents share equal responsibility in preparing the room and common spaces for move-out, regardless of the departure time or order of each resident. It is your responsibility to check your student account on MyFAU.edu for any housing damage fees and promptly pay fees to avoid a $100 late fee. If you do not return keys that were issued to you, you will be charged a key and lock replacement fee to your student account. If you leave late or any items in your room/suite/apartment, you will be assessed an improper check-out fee ($150). Any personal items left in your room/suite/apartment will be donated or discarded and you will be assessed a fee of $25 per bag.

Follow these steps for a smooth move-out:

  • Review all closing materials provided by your RA and emailed to you.
  • Schedule a move out appointment throught the Housing Portal.*
  • Clean (vacuum/mop) your room and any common areas.
  • Return the room to the original layout.
  • Remove all trash in the space (room and common areas).
  • Set thermostat to 78 degrees or mid-setting (if applicable).
  • Turned lights off and closed the blinds.
  • Make sure all water faucets are off.
  • Lock bedroom and exterior suite/apartment door.
  • Turn in keys at the front desk.
  • Remove your bike and or scooter (if applicable).

*Express checkout is also available. Through this process, residents visit the front desk and ask for an express checkout packet. You will put your keys into the packet and sign the form on the top. By choosing express checkout, residents waive their rights to appeal any damage charges that may occur.

Mail Forwarding

To have your USPS mail forwarded please email residentialmail@fau.edu with your forwarding information. Mail will only be forward for 30 days after move-out. You will also need to go to usps.com and fill out the address change form. The only packages that are allowed to be forwarded are USPS packages. All other packages will be returned to sender. Please remember to change the address on your Amazon account and other scheduled deliveries from your on-campus room.

How To Avoid Move-Out Fees

It is your responsibility to check your student account on MyFAU.edu for any housing damage fees and promptly pay fees to avoid a $100 late fee. If you do not return keys that were issued to you, you will be charged a key and lock replacement fee to your student account. If you leave late, or leave any items in your room/suite/apartment, you will be assessed an improper move-out fee ($150). Any personal items left in your room/suite/apartment will be donated or discarded and you will be assessed a fee of $25 per bag.

Bike Removal and Parking

If you have a bike on campus, please make sure to take it with you. If you are staying on campus during the summer, please pick up an E-Z tag and zip tie at the front desk and attach it to your bike. All bikes, locked or not, that do not have an E-Z tag attached to them, will be removed after May 10th.

You may leave your vehicles on campus while home for the summer. In order to do so, you must be:

  1. Registered for the fall semester
  2. Submit a Participant Waiver and Hold Harmless Form to faupark@fau.edu

Once submitted, you may leave your vehicle in any green lot (no parking garages).

If you are returning as a summer resident, make sure to re-register your vehicle online at FAU Parking and Transportation Services

Need a place to store your stuff over the summer?

FAU Housing and Residential Education has a partnership with Storage Squad who will pick up, store and re-deliver students' items that they will not need until next term. This is a very easy way to make move-out less stressful for students and families. For more information, visit our Storage Squad page here.
