Medical School Pathway Options

While the BS-MD program is highly selective in accepting a small number of applicants for that program, that does not mean you won't be supported in your medical school admission efforts! The primary mission of the FAU's Pre-Health Professions Office is to be a source of support and guidance for the FAU student population.

A “traditional” pre-health pathway is offered for freshmen and transfer students wanting to earn a Bachelor’s degree and apply to professional school. You may select any major at FAU, however due to restrictions in credit hours and the design of the new MCAT exam recommend that students consider one of these degree programs: Neuroscience, Biology, Medical Biology, and Chemistry (Biochemistry).

Once you've been accepted to FAU, you are able to connect with a Pre-Health Academic Advsior, whose office is able to asssit students who wish to store their letters of recommendation until they are ready to apply to health professional schools by opening a pre-health professions file.

Steps to open a file include:

1.      Once you have achieved (or matriculated to FAU already with) 30 credit hours you should open a file with our office to store your letters of recommendation.

2.      You can open your file using this link: https://science.fau.edu/student_services/pre_health/open_file.php

3.      The Pre-Health Professions Office will hold your letters in your file while you continue working towards your BS and complete activities that will supplement your medical school candidacy.
