Art & Poetry of the Pandemic - Fall 2020 Contest

At the end of Spring 2020, FAU Jupiter Campus Life & Honors College Faculty created a contest seeking Quarantine Art and Confinement Poetry. This Fall, we are following up on the success of the first contest with a new SARS-CoV-2to show your art and compete for prizes and fame. We are calling all FAU students to submit visual art and poetry reflecting on life in the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Works need to have been created in Summer/Fall 2020 to be eligible. A panel of faculty and staff will judge the entries.

Contests Rule: Visual art and/or poetry reflecting on life in the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic created in Summer/Fall 2020 to be eligible. Winners will receive Honors College swag (t-shirt or water bottle) and will be celebrated in the Honors College Newsletter and Jupiter Campus Life social media.

Contests open: Monday, November 23, 2020
Submission deadline: Sunday, December 6, 2020, by 11:59 p.m.

Virtual Open House for Ocean Engineering

The College of Engineering and Computer Science, Department of Ocean and Mechanical Engineering, is hosting a Virtual Open House on Wednesday, Dec. 9 at 4:30 pm. Join us to explore our BS, MS, and PhD programs in ocean engineering, meet our students and faculty, tour our world-class laboratories, learn about our capstone senior design projects, and find out about exciting career opportunities for ocean engineers.

This event will take place on Dec. 9 at 4:30 p.m. RSVP at s.fau.edu/omefall2020.

POC Capital Internship Program Information Session

Applications for the Summer 2021 POC Capital Internship Program are now being accepted. This session will give an overview of the program and the application process. The application deadline is December 1st.

Please join the session using the following link bit.ly/32Yl1mx POCC is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that has placed dozens of ethnic-minority college students into internships in Washington D.C.. Students from across the nation have worked for house representatives, senators and policy analysis firms.

COVID-19 Testing at FAU

Student Health Services on the Boca Raton, Davie and Jupiter campuses offers COVID-19 viral testing for all students, faculty and staff. Priority is given to those exhibiting signs or symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and for asymptomatic individuals with recent known or suspected COVID-19 exposure. To make an appointment for testing, call one of the three campus SHS clinic locations:

- Boca Raton: 561-297-3512
- Davie: 954-236-1556
- Jupiter: 561-799-8678

The Boca Raton SHS office also offers walk-up testing for asymptomatic individuals Thursday through Monday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., in the Owls Care Classroom, located in Building 8, Room 222A. Individuals with symptoms are not permitted to have testing at the walk-up site unless they have been referred by a member of the FAU SHS clinical team.

Clear Your Holds - Complete Sexual Assault Prevention by EverFi

Spring registration opens on November 2. Completion of Sexual Assault Prevention by EverFi is required to remove the Campus SaVE Act Hold. Visit www.fau.edu/owlscare/cs for FAQs and email wellness@health.fau.edu for additional support.

Externship and Shadow Experiential Learning Program (ExSEL)

The Externship and Shadow Experiential Learning Program (ExSEL) is a program designed for students to participate in a short-term shadowing experience (ranging from one hour for a virtual program to a maximum of two days for an in-person program) or a week long externship in order to gain more insight into a field of interest.

It is a “First Look” into a potential career. There are two employers participating for Winter Break, City of Delray Beach (on-site) and Gift of Life Marrow Registry (virtual) with a total of 14 departments offering shadow opportunities on the morning of December 17th. To apply, simply submit your resume by the deadline.

Professional Internship Course IDS 3949

Offered by the FAU Career Center, this a 0-4 credit course that undergraduate and graduate students take simultaneously with their internships. Students will have the opportunity to gain “real-world” exposure and supervised experience related to their major, specific field of study or career interests. Students will integrate theories learned in the classroom with experiential activities acquired through direct involvement in on/off-campus internship opportunities. Have you been confused about publishing articles in journals. Ever wanted to know what goes on behind the scenes? Within the college of education, we have/had a number of faculty who have been/are editors of journals. Join us for a panel discussion where they share thier perspectives, and give guidance to faculty and students who are interested in learning about the peer-reviewed publication process. All FAU faculty & students are welcome.
