Congratulations to The Weppner Center for LEAD & Service-Learning for being accepted into the 2016-2017 NASPA Lead Initiative!NASPA’s Lead Initiative on Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement comprises a network of 74 NASPA member colleges and universities committed to encouraging and highlighting the work of student affairs in making civic learning and democratic engagement a part of every student’s college education. The acceptance into this initiative will enable FAU to strengthen it’s understanding about methods of supporting students. As a Lead Initiative institution it’s required to write a blog on an assigned topic to be published in the Lead Initiative Newsletter, online and shared via social media channels. Nori Carter and Katie Burke co-authored a blog to be featured in an upcoming edition on Institutionalizing Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement. View it here.
Student Government LeadersWe recently sat down with Student Body President, Michael Cairo, and Student Body Vice President, Juliana Walters, along with the rest of the 2016-2017 Student Government leaders and had them share their vision for Florida Atlantic University. They envision FAU students continuing to be high performing and involved students, with hopes that the university becomes nationally recognized while remaining affordable and continuing to grow and foster diversity. They plan to implement a more open line of communication between students and student senators that will be enforced through data driven outreach, which will lead to new initiatives that will benefit all students.
