Charles Dukes Appointed Dean of the College of Education
Longtime Florida Atlantic faculty member draws on extensive experience to lead the College’s academic, research and community engagement efforts.
After more than two decades of teaching and leadership at Florida Atlantic University, Charles Dukes, Ed.D., Ph.D., was appointed dean of the College of Education. Dukes had served as interim dean since July 1, 2025.
Since joining Florida Atlantic in 2002, Dukes has held numerous faculty and leadership positions, including chair of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and professor of special education. His research and scholarship have focused on disability studies, applied behavior analysis and improving educational opportunities and outcomes for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
“Charles is a strong and thoughtful advocate for the College of Education, an effective steward of its programs and people, and an enthusiastic champion of its faculty, staff and students,” said Ken Dawson-Scully, Ph.D., provost and executive vice president for academic affairs. “His commitment to the College and to Florida Atlantic is evident in everything he does.”
As dean, Dukes will lead the College’s five academic departments and advance the priorities of 2031FAU: Where Tomorrow Begins. His leadership will focus on strengthening the value and real-world impact of the College’s programs, expanding research and interdisciplinary collaboration, and deepening engagement with schools, organizations and communities.
“The College has a strong foundation and an important opportunity to define its future,” Dukes said. “We will build on the expertise of our faculty and staff, strengthen our research identity, and expand the ways our teaching, scholarship and partnerships improve lives throughout the region and state.”
Dukes earned an Ed.D. in special education and curriculum and instruction from Florida International University and a Ph.D. in experimental psychology from Florida Atlantic.
