Meet the 2021 Art of Science Judges: Javad Hashemi

Research is a Snap Away

The Art of Science photography contest is about capturing the pieces of research forever, said Javad Hashemi, Ph.D., associate dean for Research and professor in the College of Engineering and Computer Science.

"I am a strong believer of what Aaron Siskind, the famous American photographer, said about photography and images: 'What you have caught on film is captured forever. ... It remembers little things long after you have forgotten everything.' I believe this adage applies to our research-related images as well," he said. "An image shows, forever, the abstract, objectives and findings of a research in a succinct and interesting way."

Hashemi, who has more than 25 years of experience in research and education, will join the panel of jurors for the second year in a row.

The 2021 Art of Science photography contest, hosted by the Division of Research, is open to FAU students, faculty, postdoctoral fellows and staff, with the goal of showcasing the research, scholarship and creative activity happening at FAU.
