Spring to Summer Transitional Housing

If you are planning to stay on campus during the summer please complete your summer housing contract by April 13th at 5:00 p.m. Students who complete a summer 1 or summer 2 housing contract by April 13th do not pay the $100 non-refundable housing application fee. Students who complete a summer 1 or summer 2 housing contract may request spring to summer transitional housing up to April 13th at 5:00 pm through the Housing Portal.

  • Students here for transitional housing must relocate to their summer room on May 14th between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Housing facilities and staff members will be entering all spaces during the break.

If you have applied for summer and no longer need summer housing, please complete the summer housing cancellation form by April 13th to avoid a cancellation fee.

Move-Out Process

All students must complete the official Check-Out process by following the steps outlined below.

All residents share equal responsibility in preparing the room and common spaces for move-out, regardless of the departure time or order of each resident. It is your responsibility to check your student account on MyFAU.edu for any housing damage fees and promptly pay fees to avoid a $100 late fee. If you do not return keys that were issued to you, you will be charged a key and lock replacement fee to your student account. If you leave late or any items in your room/suite/apartment, you will be assessed an improper check-out fee ($150). Any personal items left in your room/suite/apartment will be donated or discarded and you will be assessed a fee of $25 per bag. Move-out appointments will available from April 27th - May 6th through the Housing Portal with appointments from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm daily.

Follow these steps for a smooth move-out:

  • Living units should be left clean and free of personal property or trash and in move-in condition.
  • Residents are responsible for damages resulting from negligence, abuse, or misuse.
  • Sweep and/or vacuum all floors to remove dirt and debris.
  • Wipe down all surfaces, including toilet, shower, sink, and counters, to remove stains, grime, and buildup.
  • For residents living in Innovation Village and University Village Apartments, wipe down the outside and inside of all appliances to remove stains, crumbs, spills, and residue and remove all items.
  • For residents living in Atlantic Park Towers and Residence Hall 3, wipe down the outside and inside of the refrigerator and remove all items.
  • The entire living unit should be free of personal property, trash, and food debris.
  • All walls should be clean and free of holes, stickers, food debris, personal property, hooks, LED lighting tape, etc.
  • Set the thermostat to 78 degrees or mid-setting.
  • Turn off all the lights in your room/suite and close the window blinds.
  • Check to make sure all water faucets are in the off position.
  • Make sure you have not left any laundry in the washer or dryer/laundry room.
  • If you are leaving for the summer, complete a forwarding mail form with USPS.
  • Lock your bedroom and exterior suite/apartment door.
  • If you were given a room key upon Check-In, return your keys to your front desk and sign the Check-Out envelope.
    • Some student rooms do not receive a key upon Check-In due to their room type. Please know that all students must sign the Check-Out envelope at your community’s front desk.
  • Remove your bike and/or scooter.

*Express check-out is also available. Through this process, residents visit the front desk and ask for an express check-out envelope. You will put your keys into the envelope and sign the form on the top. By choosing express check-out, residents waive their rights to appeal any damage charges that may occur. Express check-outs are available at any time, and are the only option between the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m. On May 7, only the express check-out option will be available.

Mail Forwarding

To have your USPS mail forwarded please email residentialmail@fau.edu with your forwarding information. Mail will only be forward for 30 days after move-out. You will also need to go to usps.com and fill out the address change form. The only packages that are allowed to be forwarded are USPS packages. All other packages will be returned to sender. Please remember to change the address on your Amazon account and other scheduled deliveries from your on-campus room.

How To Avoid Move-Out Fees

It is your responsibility to check your student account on MyFAU.edu for any housing damage fees and promptly pay fees to avoid a $100 late fee. If you do not return keys that were issued to you, you will be charged a key and lock replacement fee to your student account. If you leave late, or leave any items in your room/suite/apartment, you will be assessed an improper move-out fee ($150). Any personal items left in your room/suite/apartment will be donated or discarded and you will be assessed a fee of $25 per bag or large item.

Bike Removal and Parking

If you have a bike on campus, please make sure to take it with you. If you are staying on campus during the summer, please pick up an E-Z tag and zip tie at the front desk and attach it to your bike. All bikes, locked or not, that do not have an E-Z tag attached to them, will be removed after May 13th.

You may leave your vehicles on campus while home for the summer. In order to do so, you must be:

  1. Registered for the fall semester
  2. Submit a Participant Waiver and Hold Harmless Form to faupark@fau.edu

Once submitted, you may leave your vehicle in any green lot (no parking garages).

If you are returning as a summer resident, make sure to re-register your vehicle online at FAU Parking and Transportation Services

Need a place to store your stuff over the summer?

FAU Housing and Residential Education has a partnership with Storage Scholars who will pick up, store and re-deliver students' items that they will not need until next term. This is a very easy way to make move-out less stressful for students and families. For more information, visit our Storage Scholars page here.
