Academic Program Assessment
What is an Assessment Plan?
Assessment is an integral part of the University's accreditation efforts, helping to determine whether the achievement plans and goals of each college and department are being met. Assessment contributes to curriculum re-design and enhancement, student learning, and continuous improvement of university programs and services.
A Plan Reporter (chair, director, dean, assistant, or associate VP) from each department is responsible for developing the unit's assessment plan for the academic year. The Plan Reporter determines the assessment objectives, outcomes, and measures of success and, throughout the assessment cycle, collects and analyzes data to evaluate progress toward those goals.
At the conclusion of the assessment period, the Plan Reporter documents the assessment plan, results, and supporting evidence for review by assessment coordinators, accreditation staff, and the designated approver (department head/supervisor). The approver then verifies that the assessment plan and results are complete and satisfactory, or may request revisions to the assessment plans to ensure they are clear and complete and provide the necessary information. Florida Atlantic University uses Weave as its Program Assessment Management System to document assessment plans, report results, and maintain supporting evidence for accreditation and institutional effectiveness purposes. To ensure a smooth reporting process, departments are encouraged to maintain a copy of their assessment plan in a Word document and use it as a working draft. University Team for Assurance of Student Learning (TASL)
Purpose:
The Team for Assurance of Student Learning (TASL) is the university-level assessment committee comprised of the Assistant Provost for Accreditation and Assessment, College Assessment Directors, the Dean of Undergraduate Studies, and a representative from Institutional Effectiveness and Analysis.
