EVENTS Sea Level Rise Summit Please join us in the Spring of 2016 to explore “A Warming Arctic: Shared Futures from Alaska to Florida,” the 3rd Sea-Level Rise Summit hosted by the Florida Center for Environmental Studies at Florida Atlantic University. Greening Death – Reclaiming Burial Practices & Restoring Our Tie to the Earth
Thursday, February 29, 2pm, CU 301 We once disposed of our dead in earth-friendly ways – no chemicals, biodegradable containers, dust to dust. But over the last 150 years death care has become a toxic, polluting and alienating industry in the U.S. Over the last fifteen years, however, people have been slowly waking up to the possibility of more sustainable and less disaffecting death care, reclaiming old practices in new ways, in a new age. Kelly will discuss the philosophical and historical backstory to this awakening, highlight the passionate on-the-ground work of the Green Burial Movement, and raise questions about some of the obstacles and other challenges getting in the way of more robust mobilization. Please see the PJHR homepage for all upcoming PJHR events. |
