Danielle Hatt, Ph.D., is a phycologist and ecophysiologist at Florida Atlantic Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute. Her research broadly focuses on understanding the impacts of anthropogenic stressors on seagrasses and macroalgae in tropical and subtropical regions.
She earned her doctorate degree in biology from Florida International University in Miami, Fla. Her dissertation research applied a multidisciplinary approach to quantifying the arrival and impacts of the blooming-species of brown macroalgae, pelagic Sargassum, on nearshore seagrass beds in South Florida and exploring its ecophysiological responses to increasing temperature.
Her current research at Harbor Branch focuses on exploring the optimal abiotic conditions for germination success of seagrass seeds within nursery conditions and understanding both the optimal and stressful environmental parameters that can affect the outplanting success of these nursery plants in the Indian River Lagoon.
