History

  • 2008 — Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing faculty Drs. Keller and Eggenberger approached the Medical School faculty Dr. Luck and Mr. Goldstein (then the University of Miami at FAU) to conduct IPE activities for nursing and medical students

  • 2011 — Drs. Michele Hawkins (Social Work), Joseph Ouslander (Medicine), and Ruth Tappen (Nursing), and Steering Committee established IPE Program. Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine opens at FAU and IPE program expands to include the School of Social Work. An organizational model based on directors, Associate Directors, and program assistants was established. Foundational Level programming established for medical, nursing, and social work students

  • 2013 — Office of the Provost established Office of Interprofessional Education (OIPE)

  • 2016 — Provost Office supported an interprofessional team to attend the T3 Train-the-Trainer Interprofessional Team Development Program for faculty (nursing, medicine, social work, educational leadership & instructional technology) at the University of Virginia (UVA) at Charlottesville. This group was charged with the development of the charter for the Office of Interprofessional Education, facilitator training, curriculum, and implementation of programming for the following year

  • 2017 — Formal OIPE partnership established with Palm Beach Atlantic University’s Lloyd L. Gregory School of Pharmacy to further collaborate with PharmD students

  • 2018 — Independent content expert reviewed OIPE’s foundational level programming and recommended programmatic changes to further strengthen the program

  • 2019 — Name changed to Office of Interprofessional Education and Practice to recognize the importance of partnering with providers and community

  • 2020 — Programming increased from 3 to 10 interprofessional activities resulting in more than a 100% increase in student participation
