CLARION Competition 2022

The University of Minnesota's CLARION competition is a student-driven program that focuses on the professional development of health science students and includes content related to leadership, teamwork, communication, analytical thinking, dispute resolution, and business practices. Since 2005, the University of Minnesota Health has hosted this prestigious national interprofessional case competition.

Each year, a new case study is created to test teams' ability to solve specific difficulties. Students who participate in CLARION gain a better understanding of the healthcare system in which they will work. At least two distinct professions must be represented in interprofessional teams of four students, with no more than two students from the same profession. To a panel of senior-level interprofessional health executives, the teams present a root cause analysis of a fake sentinel occurrence. Only the team members examine the cases, and their mentors provide coaching and technical help. The scenarios are made-up, but they are based on real-world difficulties related to patient safety in the healthcare system and how it may be improved. The cases are quite complicated, and they involve triple-aim concerns.

Each team member was reminded of the necessity of interprofessional collaboration in enhancing health care and patient safety in a complicated healthcare environment as a result of this competition. Furthermore, the pleasant experience as an interprofessional team revealed that cross-professional dialogue and problem-solving are possible and required.

Florida Atlantic University is happy to announce that four students from different disciplines participated in the Clarion Competition challenge this year.
