Executive Director's Message

Randy D. Blakely, Ph.D.

Welcome to the Stiles-Nicolson Brain Institute! These are exciting times for neuroscience at Florida Atlantic. Through the significant investments made by federal, state and private foundations, and the generosity of committed members of our community, Florida Atlantic is building the critical infrastructure needed to support leading-edge brain research, to recruit world-class faculty, and to train outstanding students.

The basic science efforts we are pursuing target the mechanisms that govern brain development, function and plasticity, and can yield profound insights into major neurological and mental illnesses. These disorders include Alzheimer's disease and dementia, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, mood and anxiety disorders, drug abuse and addiction, to just name a few.

As we grow our potential for transformative research and scholarship, we're becoming a prominent site for training the next generation of neuroscientists. Every day, they reignite our own passions for discovery, and remind us of the impact our efforts can have, both in growing a more humane and scientifically literate society, and erasing the stigma that all too often shadows those with brain disorders.

Sincerely,
Randy D. Blakely, Ph.D.
