Dr. Valerie Bryan
Dr. Valerie Bryan is Professor in Educational Leadership in Adult Education at Florida Atlantic University. She has received a variety of awards and other recognitions: Recipient of 2009 MacAWARD Exceptional Faculty for College of Education, 2009; nominated for FAU COE Distinguished Teacher of the Year, 2009; recipient for Florida Atlantic University’s President's Award, 2006-2007; recipient of FAU College of Education's Distinguished Teacher of the Year for 2006; served as President for College of Education Faculty Assembly, 2005-2006; recipient of FAU College of Education Teacher of the Year, 2005-2006; recipient of Florida Atlantic University’s President's Leadership Award for 2005-2006; recognized as webmaster of One of Top Ten US Literacy Internet sites, 1998; recipient of Clemson University’s President’s Award, 1993; selected North Carolina’s Individual of the Year, 1984; served as President of National Fitness Coalition; served as President of North Carolina Recreation and Park Society; served as State President of Delta Kappa Gamma; recognized for several distinctions on Who’s Who list.
At Florida Atlantic University, she teaches courses in management, adult learning, administration, aging, integration of technology, and a host of other subjects, online, in stand-up-mode, and on several platforms, and is active in developing curricula that embraces virtual learning communities and enhanced staff productivity using a varying of technology-based tools. Valerie is active in the integration of technology in practice, as a doctoral chair, and in her research/grant-writing of over $1.8 M (at FAU alone) for numerous populations including senior adults, individuals with literacy or language deficiencies, career and vocational trainees, graduate students, and community-based collaboratives including recreation and leisure services and after-school programs. She has served as author/co-author of textbooks, book chapters, refereed publications at the international and national levels, state journal articles, extensive documents, host of grants, manuals and catalogs, and conducted over 250 refereed/non-refereed presentations at regional, state, national, and international conferences. In addition she has chaired or served as committee member for 51 doctoral dissertations.
