The Department of Curriculum and Instruction offers a 4+1 Master's Degree Pathway. This program includes a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with ESOL/ Reading Endorsement for grades K-6, immersed with a Master's degree in Elementary Education. The courses listed below are required for the Bachelor's degree, followed by the Master's degree.
Once admitted, students are assigned a faculty advisor, who will advise and guide them through program development (see the overview) and degree completion.

- Why should I enroll in the 4+1 program?
- This program is designed to support the development of master teachers by creating a pathway for our eligible undergraduates to apply coursework towards the early completion of a graduate degree. By completing a master’s degree in this field, students will also be eligible for educator advanced pay within our local school districts.
- What are the admission requirements for the 4+1 program?

- I am a recipient of Florida’s Program of Strategic Emphasis tuition waiver. How does this affect my waiver?
- If you are a recipient of this waiver, all 3000- and 4000-level courses that are required for program of study are eligible. The waiver does not cover graduate courses (5000- or 6000-level) even if those courses are applicable to the degree.
- I receive financial aid. How does this affect my financial aid package?

UPPER DIVISION UNDERGRADUATE TOTAL 60 credits
The additional 24 credits required to obtain the Master’s in Elementary Education degree are spread across three semesters. Students will work individually with their graduate advisor to select unique electives aligned with their interests and career goals. Graduate certificates may also be included within elective choices.

How to Apply
APPLICANTS
Applicants must first apply to FAU as a First year/freshman (applying immediately after high school) or transfer student (already earned 12 or more college credits after graduation; earned an Associate degree, or seeking a 2nd Bachelor's).
Once admitted to FAU, students who have earned 60 Credit hours with a cumulative 3.0 GPA are invited to apply to the College of Education (COE) and the Department of Curriculum and Instruction (DCI) 4+1 Bachelor’s in Elementary Education with ESOL/Reading Endorsement and Master's Degree in Elementary Education. Students should speak with their undergraduate advisor about their interest in this program.
